A few months back, my daughter asked me for a dance track for her dance program. I thought this was an awesome idea. It would be a fun project that we could work together and make something fun for her dance class.

Over the next few weeks, we finished the project. The track was ready for play except it wasn’t getting plaid. I’m not entirely sure what happened but I think she lost interest in the track (although I have heard it a few times since then). I thought the track was pretty cool and worth sharing. But no one these days wants to just listen to a track. We’ve all been acclimated with video so I knew I had to incorporate video into the track.

But there’s another problem – I don’t exactly use video software on a regular basis. So I had to ask – what do I have? I have an iPhone 13 Pro, access to some cool video apps on the App Store, and ScreenFlow 10 on my mac. I had the track and I had some decent resources. That was enough and so there I began.

I had hoped my daughter would work on a routine so I could video her dancing to the track. That would have been ideal. But that wasn’t the case so I had to look at what I had….which was just me and my instruments.

This was a bit of a stretch for me. I’m not big on being in the spotlight (ha yes I have my own website – I’m branching out). So I started with taking a full video of me playing the song at different angles. After I had around 4 or 5 takes, I started looking at video apps on my phone.

Here are some of the video apps I chose to try out:

Luckily Videoshop and Afterlight come with a free trial and I was able to get most of my filter work done within that amount of time. Now I was ready for the actual video editing.

I started ScreenFlow 10 on my mac and was off with the races. I was excited about the progress I had made. I had also excited about utilizing some new ideas after watching some YouTube tutorial videos!

As I added each video track into ScreenFlow, I muted the attached audio track. I only wanted one audio track and that was the final mp4 track for the song.

I had everything lined up and ready to watch. And then it happened…

At the beginning of each video section, the song matched up but throughout the video clip, the audio didn’t sync up.

After researching and trying numerous methods, I learned that I had recorded at 24 fps and my software was set at 30. I could either change my software to 24 fps or I could re-record.

I chose to re-record because I wanted this video to look its best!

So once all the video tracks were recorded at 30 fps, the video and audio matched and I could finally move forward with the video.

I’m happy to say the video was completed shortly after and I was able to upload to YouTube.

I’ve included the video below for your watching pleasure.
